Keratoconus and Related Noninflammatory Corneal Thinning Disorders

A great deal has been written about keratoconus. Recent advances in contact lens technology,
cornea1 surgery, and laboratory methodology have provided the means to better understand
and treat the disorder. Without extensive experience in examining, treating, or performing research
on keratoconus it is difftcult to evaluate the current literature. Key questions commonly arise.
How do you diagnose early keratoconus? What kind of contact lenses should be used? When is surgery indicated? Can contact lenses cause keratoconus? Is keratoconus inherited? What information can be found in the research literature to help us understand the etiology of keratoconus?
